The Church Community

Abbey Centre Baptist Church currently has a membership of 65, with a further 20 or so regular attenders. We are a Christian community with an evangelical heritage but are free-thinking and have an openness to working with other denominations and other faiths. We seek to be a welcoming and affirming congregation.  Not all our members are physically active but we are all still young at heart.

The congregation on a Sunday morning usually numbers anything between 30 and 60. In the evening we usually have a small bible study group of about 5 or 6 who meet in a member’s home. Communion is celebrated each Sunday morning and our services are largely informal but traditional in structure and open to change. The first Sunday in the month is supported by our Praise Team to encourage the singing. The hymn books we mostly use are Baptist Praise & Worship and the Catholic Supplement, and multi-media is used within most of our services. Over the past year, through necessity, we have become adept at using zoom to stay connected as a church family.

If you wish to come along and join with us in any way, you are very welcome, whether or not you have a church background. It doesn’t matter where you come from, or whether you are young or old, male or female, straight or gay, black or white, you will find that you are always welcome to take part in our church’s worship services and  other activities. It would be a pleasure to have you as a part of our local community here at the Abbey Centre.
